GPP crusade 21 - rubbings!

GPP Crusade #21 - Irresistible. This weeks crusade is all about wax rubbings! As soon as I read it I had to have a go but a quick scout round the house didn't reveal much to use - so I did rubbings of 2 wallpapers that havent got that much of a pattern on (but hey they did the job for a play) and a rubbing of a Klimt inspired wall plaque.

Plain white thin paper, black wax crayon, resin wall plaque: it looked like it was going to be a good thing to use but in reality it wasnt ideal, however it was a good place to start.

so I moved on from that to my hallway and livingroon wall papers (the only wallpaper I have in the whole house - the rest are all just painted walls as Im not that keen on wallpaper - and only have this up because it was already on the walls when we moved in and I just painted over it!!) again, not wonderful, the patterns are not really striking enough to use as a rubbing, but at least I got to practise a little. Black crayon and white paper again.

...and this is them with a swish of acrylic paint over them applied with a baby wipe and a foam brush.

Jo Sonjas Aqua, Yellow green and ultramarine blue (with a baby wipe)

Ranger butterscotch dabber (with a baby wipe)

Ranger Stream dabber (with a foam brush)

So that's my first attempt at #21 (and my second crusade! who said it was addictive? LOL). Really liking this effect and I'm full of ideas to use the results on all sorts of projects, and am off to Homebase tomorrow for a few wallpaper samples to make more rubbings. I need bolder patterns for a greater effect I think - and also need them not to be attached to a wall as it wasn't the easiest thing to rub them, without getting crayon on the wall...

Hello Clare,

the rubbings look quite good ! It must have been fun seeing you running around in your house searching for something to rub on....
Maybe the rubbings are not yet what you expected of it, but they already make great backgrounds !

I'm busy too : it's a bit searching for the right thickness of paper, which waxcrayons to use , but this is also the fun part !

I'll be back for your next rubbings

Addictive - see :)

Love that Klimt plaque!

and your rubbings have come out really well

I wanted to give this a try last night but couldn't find a single wax crayon in the whole house - Connor must have eaten them :)

you know it never even occurred to me to try rubbing on wallpaper that's ON the wall - in my bedroom I have some analglypta style stuff inherited from the previous inhabitants, it's in a kind of damask pattern - I might give it a try.

thanks for the inspiration, me dear :)

(and your little houses are looking fab too)
